Blog #1 "The Man with the Golden Voice"
"The Man with the Golden Voice," Ted Williams....a youtube.com video of him making an announcement went viral and he was discovered and offered many new opportunities. Going from being homeless with a cardboard sign to meeting Dr. Phil and others on the television talk show circuit and having a contract with Kraft in a little over a week.
All would say that those things are amazing, and they are. Only in America can you go from homeless to famous in less than 72 hours. This is both an amazing story and a tragic one.
Williams is a self admitted alcoholic and drug addict who abandoned his wife, leaving behind his young children. I really think that this will be a time will tell situation.
I don't know if all the media attention and all these offers for jobs are good for someone in Ted Williams' situation. There is a huge potential for him to fall and fall hard and I don't believe that the media or his "managers" have his best interest truly at heart. If he starts getting into trouble again there will be tons of media coverage and stories, if he completes his rehab and stays on the right track there will be media coverage and stories as well so either way there are people making money off of him.
From the video with the reunion with his mother you can see that there is a very strained relationship, almost cold. His mother is not very supportive of him and really doesn't believe that he will change. Even in following interviews she has held her skepticism and continued not to be supportive and bring up the past and past disappointments.
I hope that Ted Williams can continue his success and sobriety because his voice is truly phenomenal and one of a kind. He is currently in rehab for 90 days and I really hope that it helps him.

Dr. Phil is doing a whole series on Ted Williams. Today I watched the show with Ted live via phone from rehab and his ex-wife and daughter.
ReplyDeleteThe impression I get from all this is that Ted Williams is the "hot" person right now and everyone wants a piece of that action while it is hot.
I don't know what Dr. Phil's motives are, but it seems about ratings and bringing up controversy to keep the story alive and interesting. Like bringing Ted's girlfriend into the mix and interviewing her. You can tell that she is still an addict and needs help too. It is just more DRAMA for publicity sake.
I really hope that he and his family get help and come out better from this experience and not worse.
